Preparation
Abdominal ultrasound
- Nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours before your examination (except to swallow necessary medications).
Obstetrical
- Early dating/viability ultrasounds, Anatomy, NT & IPS require full bladder (Finish approx. 4 glasses/1L) of water an hour prior to your appointment.
- BPP or obstetrical routine ultrasounds to check growth and well being after 28 weeks do not require full bladder or any preparation.
Pelvic Ultrasound
- You need a full bladder.
Finish drinking 4 glasses of water ( approx. 1L) an hour prior to your appointment.
Combination Pelvic and Abdominal Ultrasound
- Nothing to eat for 8 hours but complete drinking 40 ounces or 1 Litres of water 1 hour before your examination.

- Breast ultrasound
- Thyroid ultrasound
- Renal/Bladder ultrasound ( full bladder)
